Jamaican Beet Root

Hi REVEllers, I really want to designate a day for Alternative Medicine/ Jamaican remedies , I've decided that Tuesday is the day . Look out for posts of that nature every Tuesday :-) Today , i want to look at a Jamaican "root" , that is often over looked because most people are not sure how to use it or they just don't like it . The root I'm talking about is Beet Root.

The Jamaican Beet Root can range from deep red to white and is available all year round. The Beetroot is famous for being combined with other Jamaican Roots to make various traditional drinks that aids with various ailments . Below , i will list a few of the Nutritional benefits of Beetroot , some of these will surprise you.

Regulates Diabetes : If you are diabetic , you might want to incorporate Beetroot in your diet . It actually has natural sugars that are good for your health , instead of the artificial type , that slowly thins the blood.



Improves Digestion : The "Olden " Days Jamaicans would use Beetroot to help with digestion problems and Constipation .

Promotes Weight Loss : Beetroot is high in Calories and rich in Fiber .It also contains essential nutrients , vitamins and minerals that help in reducing belly fat.

Alleviates Menstrual Cramps : For this purpose , it is more effective when mixed with carrots to make a drink . I would also recommend drinking this concoction at least a few weeks before your period as it is said to make your flow heavier because of its naturally rich deep red color .

A glass of beetroot juice daily , helps to reduce High Blood Pressure , as well as Cholesterol Level . Please note , it is not just limited to Carrots . It can be blended with several other Jamaican roots for your benefits . All it takes is a strong stomach and knowledge of how to make it "tasty" :-)
